Poco a poco nos vamos acercando a la época moderna y vamos viendo como el inglés está evolucionando en nuestros días.
Así, el invento de Internet ha traído muchas palabras nuevas a nuestro idioma de cabecera.
Es importante saber que el primer email se envío en 1972 y, un idioma que había ido cambiando porque la gente lo hablaba, empezó a cambiar no sólo por esto sino también porque, de repente, se volvía a escribir.
Debido a que Internet es algo tan nuevo y los neologismos aparecían en inglés, el español fue, poco a poco, cogiendo prestados estos términos. Algunos ejemplos son, “download”, “blog” o “hard drive”.
Y gracias a los mensajes de texto, tan populares hoy en día, cada vez tenemos más abreviaturas en inglés que incluso se utilizan en lenguaje hablado. ¿O no habéis usado nunca “FYI” cuando habláis en inglés? Ya sabéis que esto significa “For Your Information” = “Para Vuestra Información”.
Otras abreviaturas que nos podemos encontrar son: “BTW” “By The Way” = “Por cierto”, o la muy usada “LOL” que puede tener dos significados diferentes: “Laugh Out Loud” o “Lots Of Love”. Y una que nos ha gustado mucho por el número de letras “UG2BK”, es decir “You Got To Be Kidding” “Tienes que estar bromeando”.

Conversations were getting shorter than the average attention span – why bother writing a sentence when an abbreviation would do and leave you more time to ‘blog’, ‘poke’ and ‘reboot’ when your ‘hard drive’ crashed? ‘In my humble opinion’ became ‘IMHO, ‘by the way’ became ‘BTW and ‘if we’re honest that life-threatening accident was pretty hilarious!’ simply became ‘fail’.
